Lab 01: Computer Hardware Components
Objectives
By the end of this lab you should be able to:
• Identify different hardware components of a computer.
• Recognize different specifications and types of Major hardware component.

Task 1. Hardware Components
In this part, we will take a look at the inside of the PC case, as shown in Figure 1.

1.1 Find out and write down the main functionalities of the following hardware components.

PSU
PSU – PSU provides computers low-voltage regulated dc power, for example
computer can still keep trade on time while its being switch off.
CPU
CPU – An CPU helps computers to carry out instructions of a computer
program.
Motherboard
Motherboard – Motherboard helps to connects all hardware together to
function properly.
RAM
RAM – A RAM is used to stores data that are currently being used, data that
are stored in a RAM will be erased when computer is switch off.
Graphics Card
Graphics Card – Graphics card helps computer to process graphic data then
display it on the monitor.
Optical Drive
Optical Drive – an optical drive is for users to insert CD, VCD or DVD to it
and run it.

Hard Drive
Hard Drive – Is used to save data, data that are being saved in hard-drive will
not be erased even when computer is being switched off.
IDE Cable
IDE Cable – IDE cable are used to connect some hard drives and optical
drives to each other and also to the motherboard.
