Once-Now Structure Essay From Envious to Grateful Thesis Statement: Once I was crammed with
notions of envy, ingratitude and jealousy but then an incident brought about a positive and constructive
shift in my life, and now I am someone who is thankful, grateful and appreciative for everything he has
been fortunate and blessed with. Human being is an ungracious and ungrateful creature. Even after
being blessed in so many ways, his greed continues to build up into a limitless desire for more. He is
always obsessed and fixated upon what others have and can never be pleased and satisfied with what
he himself has. This way, he can never accomplish real pleasure and happiness because they are always
concerned with others’ lives rather than their own life. Though, the ones who overwhelm this
resentment and bitterness realize for themselves relief and reconciliation. Once I was someone who
always criticized and complained about what he did not have. I would continually evaluate and compare
my family status with those who were wealthier or somewhat in better financial condition than mine.
This was an awful situation because I eternally felt jealous, possessive, and envious of my friends when
they had their birthday parties and gifts or even when they notched well and better than me in
examinations. I was domineering and cunning of those class fellows who were better in extracurricular
activities than me. Predictably, my friends and colleagues never really liked me because I was so
confused and disappointed, and not having faithful and loyal friends is miserable. I could not be pleased
for anybody but myself. That pleasure was always unnatural and temporary because I always
concentrated more on what others had and never focused on what I had myself. When I was in the 10th
standard, I was spotted with a severe case of Typhoid fever. I had to be confessed and admitted to the
hospital for about two months. Along with the discomfort, pain, 7 and trembling fever, I felt so weak and
fragile that I could even move. During this challenging and hard time, I just prayed for my recovery and
upturn. There in the hospital, I was taken aback when I saw patients who were critically and gravely ill.
