On The Road Analytical Essay
In the novel, On The Road, it is clear to the reader that females are disrespected and mistreated
by the main characters Sal Paradise and Dean Moriarty. Jack Kerouac’s novel depicts the role that
women played during the age of the popular and rebellious “Beatniks,” The lifestyle of beatnik
was a rebellious one to say the least. Most beatniks were writers who used drugs all the time,
drinking alcohol all the time, and having sex all the time. The “beat generation” social movement
was led by Kerouac and was very popular amongst the younger generation during the 1950s and
1960s. Throughout Sal Paradise and Dean Moriarty’s three trips across the country, there are many
encounters with women that display the male beatnik’s barbaric behaviors. When Sal Paradise and
Dean Moriarty encounter women in the novel, it is clear that they do not hold any respect towards
women. Throughout the novel, On The Road, “the female character role”, the way that the
