Intro:
Today, I will be showing you how to make an “Old Fashioned” cocktail.
I chose to demonstrate this topic because I have recently started bartending for an
events company.
I believe that everyone, who likes to enjoy a drink, should have a favorite cocktail that
they know to order at any bar, or can make for themselves at home.
Even though not everybody will like an Old Fashioned, it is important to know that any
drink can be modified or personalized
By substituting a key ingredients for an alternative you can take your own creative
direction, making the drink that you enjoy.
Old fashioned history
In 1806 a reader of a New York State newspaper requested an explanation of what a
cocktail was.
One Editor explained The cocktail to be Sugar, spirit, bitters, and water
o The reason water was an ingredient was because during this time Ice was
extremely expensive.
In 1862 Jerry Thomas wrote “The BarTender’s Guide” which included a bunch of
innovative cocktails with some of the new spirits and Liqueurs of the mid 1800’s
