Observed Ethical Dilemma
In India, unfortunately, corruption is rampant and has slowly become a reality of life for
most. From the local policeman to the highest-level bureaucrat, every official expects to be
bribed in order to perform his or her duties. Having been brought up with firm ethical and moral
standards, I find it difficult to compromise for the sake of financial gain.
About a year back I was engaged in a business that manages the operations of restaurants,
bars and catering units in Delhi, India. There are a multitude of rules and regulations governing
this industry, including food hygiene and health, fire safety, liquor license and taxes, and bribing
government officials on a regular basis is considered the norm and without bribes it is harder to
