Nursing Applicant Essay
In every aspect of my life I have discovered ways to provide help or guidance
to the people I encounter. I have done big and small deeds, actions that go unnoticed
and other engagements that present me recognition. My empathetic mindset has
always driven me to help others, even when I didn’t realize it. Currently, my well-
rounded curriculum provides many opportunities to assist others in situations
where they may need guidance. My primary example includes the dedication to my
work as a Certified Nursing Assistant. I received my CNA license before my senior
year of high school and began working at a local nursing home. I found that it was
difficult to have a positive attitude in an environment that is often full of negativity.
This experience slightly discouraged me because I saw that there were very few
nurses and assistants who were motivated to bring positivity into the resident’s
lives- which I believe is one of the most important factors in caring for any patient,
especially elders. In the same instance, I was motivated to work harder and provide
more quality care to make up for my coworkers who didn’t try as hard. Moving on to
college I was granted another CNA job, this time at Bryan LGH East on a general
medical floor. This job, compared to the last, was like night and day in regards to
patient care and attitude. It is so inspiring to work with the nurses that have an
encouraging attitude with their patients, regardless of the mood that they are
feeling. I’ve come to realize that with most patients, being in a hospital can cause a
