Infection control has been a key part of the health-care system before the
development of universal precautions in the 1980s. Universal precautions were implemented
to protect against hospital acquired infection of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and later
restructured to also include a vast array of other pathogens in bodily secretions, know as body
substance isolation (REVIEW OF SPASMITC). Due to the health-care setting being identified as
a major source of infection, universal precautions and body substance isolation were used to
construct standard precautions. Standard precautions were developed and put into practice to
improve upon the control of infection for the safety of the patients, staff, and visitors.
Infection control is “A managed environment, which minimizes the risk of infection…”
