Nuclear Power
Nuclear power is one of the most dangerous types of energy sources. All countries in the
world need energy supplies. Their governments have some types of energy polices to provide
enough energy for their citizens. Some countries’ governments support charcoal energy as their
countries’ energy policy. Many governments in the world encourage gasoline energy source as
part of their countries energy policy. Other countries energy supply would be natural gas. A few
countries have encouraged and developed wind, solar, or, water power. Very few countries use
nuclear energy as part of their energy supplies. However, some types of energy sources have
major disadvantages to the environment and society. Some of them have their own minor
disadvantages, but some energy supplies have no disadvantage at all. They are convenient and
reliable energy sources. Wind, solar, and water energy sources have no any side effect toward our
environment. In the world most countries use less risk types of energy sources while others are
trying to develop and use a risk free energy sources. A number of countries on the other hand for
no enough reasons use the most unsafe energy sources. Some countries including U.S have used
nuclear power as part of their energy policy even though it is very dangerous. Many the U.S.
citizens’ seems do not that much be concerned about it. Some people in the U.S even do not
know the twenty percent of electricity comes from the nuclear energy. Many people do not know
the consequences of using a nuclear energy. Some citizens also think only about the positive side
of the energy even though we can get the same benefits from other sources of energy that have
no real effects. When supporters of nuclear energy know the consequences of using nuclear

power, they will stand against it. Mark Clayton said, “American public support for nuclear
development slid a precipitous 10 points – from 57 percent a week before the March 11 quake to
47 percent the week after.” Furthermore, the government of the U.S. is also concerned more in
other current issues than the future potential problems. If citizens and the U.S government do not
act to provide energy that has no side effect to our planate, either the future generations or we
will pay a heavy price for it. For instance, the last generations did not think about the causes of
global warming. Their concern was just to provide enough energy for their needs. They did not
care or understand about gas emission by the time. They had released massive amount of carbon
dioxide to the atmosphere without even think the gas could hurt the ozone. In the past
generations did not know the consequences of deforestation, but today even though we do not
tack enough actions, we know and can feel the temperature getting higher and higher from time
to time. If we do not take major actions to reduce emission gas and deforestation, the situation
will get even worse. Our planet, earth, will more warm than today, and the Arctic and Antarctic
ice, that help to balance the temperature on earth, will be melted. Many countries in the world
will flood. Drought will heat many countries in the world, yet nuclear power has the most
consequences if the worst case scenario happens. If nuclear radiation pollutes our environment, it
is too hard to clean the radiation from the area. We might have some options to sustain the case
of global warming. Global warming might improve if we reduce the release of gas emission to
the atmosphere, and if we prevent deforestation, but in the nuclear crises case, there is no way we
can restrain the polluted environment. Do you know dinosaurs? This animal used to live on earth
many years ago, but today no one can see them on the earth because it is extinct. The same thing
will happen to other animals and people that we live on earth today unless we avoid using
nuclear power just like some other countries. Germany and Switzerland governments have

proposed to stop using their nuclear reactors because of their citizens demands and
understanding the inherent dangers of nuclear power (Cobb). We will have the same history like
dinosaur. The most three major reasons that U.S. should not include nuclear energy as part of its
energy policies are the potential of nuclear accidents, a huge capital and time investment that
require to build a nuclear power plant, and the problem of nuclear waste disposal.
One of the disadvantages of nuclear power is that the nuclear power plants melt down in
accidents. Our safety is very important. We have to be safe in our life, so safety should be
everyone’s priority. All energy sources must be safe. They have to be friendly to the
environment. They must be green and convenient. Individuals should choose and support the
right types of energy sources. We are the one who benefited in what we do right. We are the one
who face the consequences of our wrong choices. We have to avoid using nuclear energy because
nuclear power is not safe and convenient.
The potential of nuclear meltdown is the top reason that we have to quit using nuclear
energy. Nuclear power plants are meltdown in accidents. Many people in many countries that
have been used nuclear energy protested against nuclear power. Some of them they have already
experienced the consequences of nuclear meltdown. For instance, japans nuclear meltdown is a
recent history that happened in 2011. When the accident happened, many people evacuated to
strange areas. The nuclear meltdown hurt Japan’s people more than the earth quack and tsunami
that happened at the same time. Russia and the U.S. also have the experience of nuclear
accidents. Many people died due to the accidents. Many people lost their family members,
relatives, and friends. Many residents evacuate due to nuclear explosions. They are forced to
leave their home land due to the nuclear accident. An independent expert Cooper said, “This is
yet another example of how a multibillion-dollar investment can turn into a multibillion-dollar

liability within minutes” (qtd. in Eisler). Other countries that have nuclear energy even though
they never experienced nuclear accidents, they learn from other countries like Japan that had
already experienced the nuclear disaster. Other countries people learn the consequences of using
nuclear energy, so they stand against it. Some countries’ governments have planed not to build a
new nuclear power plant. Hiroko said, “Germany, which in 2010 relied on reactors for 26 percent
of its electricity, was rattled enough by the Fukushima disaster to announce a move away from
nuclear power by 2022.” They are also plan to eliminate all nuclear power plants that they
already exist and have been used for many years. The potential nuclear accident is the scariest
crises in the world. When a nuclear is meltdown, it releases radiation to the environment. The
radiation kills people and animals. Brian wrote on ABC News article, “Accidents and
malfunction at nuclear power plants can result in the release of large amounts of radiation.
