Selecting office employees is basically a staffing function.
Staffing involves bringing new employees into the organization.
It also involves making certain they are a valuable addition to the work force.
In staffing, the potential employee’s qualifications are matched with the requirements of the position.
A number of measures are taken to assure a good match, including the completing of an application
blank, testing, and interviewing.
Staffing is a multifaceted process that involves a number of steps.
The first of the steps is to specify human resource objectives.
Generally, human resource objectives are one aspect of the total organizational goals.
Therefore, the human resource objectives are typically approved by top management.
Another step is to carry out a human resource audit.
The purpose of this step is to make an inventory of the current employees in terms of their qualifications,
the positions they hold, turnover rates among various positions, and typical movement of individuals
between positions.
