From Notes on the State of Virginia, 1781-1782
Thomas Jefferson known as the third president of the Unites States was born in
Albemarle County, Virginia on April 13, 1743. Jefferson was the third of ten children at a family
plantation in Shadwell. Both of Jefferson’s parents were well known in them colony; his mother
was from one of the oldest and prominent families in the colony, while his father was a farmer
and surveyor. At the age of fourteen his father died leaving him, the oldest son, with an inherence
about 2,500 acres and thirty slaves. Two years later, at the age of sixteen, Jefferson enrolled to
the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, in which he developed several friendships
