North Carolina Health Care Statutes and Regulaon
All states enact laws and appoint bodies to regulate the medical profession within the respective
state. The state of North Carolina General Assembly enacted statutes regarding the medical profession
in North Carolina. Through these statutes, the state appointed a board with the charter to regulate and
monitor the licensing, medical practices, and disciplining of medical professionals within the state. The
intent of the General Assembly in appointing this board was to protect the general population of the state
from harm by unscrupulous practitioners and improper practices.
State Statutes Regulating Health Care Professionals
The North Carolina General Assembly published the North Carolina General Statutes (NCGS)
Chapter 90 Medicine and Allied Occupations, which mandates the requirements for the practice of the
medical professions in the state of North Carolina. This statute also created the North Carolina Medical
Board (NCMB). This board has the responsibility to oversee medical licensing and practice in the state of
