The Noh Mask
Hello Japan by Akiko Tanaka is an exhibition that is featured at the Hampton University
Museum in Hampton, VA. This exhibition consists of contemporary ceramics. Akiko
Tanaka’s work displayed is a mixture of a modern impact and traditional Japanese hand
building. Hampton University’s attentiveness for the Japanese culture goes all the way
back to the late 80’s. Alice Mable Bacon taught in the Peeress’ School for Japanese
aristocratic girls in Tokyo, Japan from 1888-1889. Alice Mable Bacon has one of her
collections featured in the Hampton University museum. This collection is called the Noh
