Film Exercise 1: Huichol Pilgrimages to Wirikuta
The sacred pilgrimage to Wirikuta is a land that is located high in the mountains of
central Mexico which is a sacred site that the people of Wixarika, Huichol, natives journey to.
The expedition to the sacred land that includes spiritual rituals, offerings and ceremonies that are
meant to thank their gods. Two films, Touching the Timeless and To Find Our life, follow these
people on their journey to the sacred land explaining the practices and purposes of rituals
performed along the way. One of the most significant process done before groups leave for the
trip is to purify, be celibate and fast from any food with salt. Each group from the films share
their experience with practices and stories that are accurately similar but do vary slightly among
