UAE – Israel peace deal opens up opportunity for India
In the middle of a pandemic, the geopolitics of the world’s most troubled region took a historic turn
this week, when the UAE and the rising influential power in the Gulf Israel signed an agreement to
“normalise” relations.
The barebones of the deal envisages establishing regular diplomatic relations between the UAE, the
“Incredible Hulk” of the region – Israel – known as a country not having speaking terms with most of
its Arab neighbours.
The deal opens up new opportunities for India to play a much larger role in the regional security and
stability in the Gulf.
India and Israel defence partnership dates back to July 5, 2017 when Shri Narendra Modi when to
Israel to meet his counterpart Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu. This will help India to ramp up defence and
security relations with UAE. While some work has already happened, India should leverage its
economy for a bigger opening in this region.
