Presentation :
With the movie « Snowden », realized by Oliver Stone in November 2016, surveillance and big data
are no longer a secret. Indeed, when Edwar Snowden was to track criminals on Internet, he realized
the NSA (National Security Agency) could watch everyone in the world : he copied the files and
give them to the journalists of The Guardian. He didn’t want to eliminate the system of surveillance,
he just wanted to reveal the truth.
Summary
In our days, technologies and connected objects are more and more efficient. Indeed, these help stop
criminals and to put them behind bars. For example, with smart case, phones, gaming consoles,
pacemaker and some technologies, the detectives were able to discover that those who pleaded
innocence were guilty.
We are being tracked all the time : everything that we do is monitored, filmed, recorded and
analyzed. All can be an evidence : car moving, Internet researches, pacemaker monitoring.
So, the policemen have courses to recognize and handle digital evidence. New technologies become
silent witnesses.
This technological advance isn’t mastered in all the police office, but the trend will develop, even if
it’s in contradiction with the private life.
