The individual project for this class will provide you with an opportunity to identify and explore careers,
plan the next steps to realize your career goals, and identify what to do while you are still in college to
prepare for entering the career of your choice. Some of you may be more focused about your career
than others. It doesn’t matter for this assignment. Those who do not yet have a major can use this as an
opportunity to explore different careers in different areas of business. If you do know what career you
want to pursue, you can focus on finding out more about it.

Preliminary Research:
The first thing you should do is some preliminary research. Research careers in your major (if
you have chosen a major) or in different areas of business (if you have not chosen a major). If
you are not sure what career(s) you are interested in a useful place to start is this chart showing
what careers you can pursue with each major. It is located on the UMD Career Development
