Negative Effects of Haitian Immigration in Dominican Republic
The historian José Chez Checo (2014) explained that “ the blame for the illegal
immigration of Haitians is for the Dominican Republic, because the vast majority of
the illegal migration that has entered the country came because of the State and the
Government, often in complicity with the business that hired that cheap labor for
overexploiting”.
Haiti occupies a third of the island of Hispaniola, which it shares with the
Dominican Republic; the conflict between both countries has existed since 1805, and
despite having resolved their differences, the resentment of the citizens remains present,
especially after the earthquake that occurred in Haiti which led to the entry of about 3
million ilegal Haitians to Dominican territory.
