Need for Protection
Even though our rights have been violated, we have a need for protection from terrorism and threats
to the Nation. Elaborate on why we allow the government to infringe on our privacy.
The Need for protection Rick Ulferts
The need for protection and security stems from the national level all the way down to a
personal level and is a current and ongoing issue for millions of Americans. Some people argue that the
federal government has gone too far when it comes to invading privacies in order to “keep us safe from
terrorism.” It was an eye opener for all Americans when Snowden leaked classified documents to the
news media that revealed the existence of top-secret government surveillance programs. This section
will go over what is believed to be necessary to maintain our security at the cost of our own personal
privacy and why we allow the federal government to continue to infringe on our privacy. Governments
around the world have come to view privacy as the enemy of security because it hinders them from fully
protecting themselves and their nation from foreign and domestic enemies.
When it came public that the United States intelligence agencies have been systematically
collecting the phone records and online communications of millions of American citizens it was a real eye
opener to all of us. With that being said, each and every American has their own opinion as to what is
more important to them; our privacy or national security. For the most part most Americans expressed
