Case Study Analysis: National Cranberry Cooperative
The issue:
There are two primary issues faced by the National Cranberry Cooperative at the receiving plant
No.1 RP1 during the harvesting period is at follows:
1. Increased waiting period for trucks before they unload berries at the receiving plant
2. Too much overtime costs and rate of absenteeism.
There is also the secondary issue of grades of berries. Half of the berries graded as top quality are
not actually and do not deserve the extra premium paid on top quality berries.
Also, the demand for cranberries is at a stable rate, however, the production of cranberries varies
year by year. The rate of harvested cranberries increases at a rate of 13%/year and will likely at
stabilize at 70%. The long waiting hours to unload and receive the berries occupies a major part of
the workday.
There are some facts given:
Kiwanee Dumpers - 5
