Calculate capacity of each step in the operation
Dumpling capacity:
There are 5 Kiwanee dumpers. The average truch delivery is 75 bbls. It takes 7-8 minutes
to back a truck onto a Kiwanee dumper.
capacity = = 3000 bbls/hr
Temporary holding capacity:
Total capacity = 4000 + 2000 + 12000 = 7200 bbls/hr
Destoning and dechaffing capacity:
Each of 3 units can process up to 1500 bbls
capacity = = 4500 bbls
Drying capacity:
Each of 3 units can dry at rate up to 200 bbls
capacity = = 600 bbls
Separating capacity:
Each of 3 sperator lines can process on average 400 bls/hr
capacity = = 1200 bbls
Bulking capacity:
Bulk bin station capacity = 4 * 200 = 800 bbls/hr
Bulk truck station capacity = 2 * 1000 = 2000 bbls/hr
Bagging station capacity = 8000/12 = 667 bbls/hr
Calculate truck wait time and cost
Assume there are 18000 barrels of berries a day, and 70% of them are wet.
Average wet berries arrival rate = = 1050 bbls/hr
Number of trucks per hour = 1050 / 75 = 14
Average dried berries arrival rate = = 450 bbls/hr
Identify the problem:
The wet berries bin will be filled completely after: 3200 / 1050 = 3.03 hours.
Assume the process start at 7AM, the bin will be filled at 10.03 AM, so the truck carries
wet berries have to wait after that.
From 7AM – 11 AM,
