National Deficit
In order to lower the budget deficit, funding had to be cut from many programs.
Cutting those funds also affected many different groups in society. The Elderly, students,
environmentalists, and farmers were all affected by the budget cuts. By lowering the
funding for healthcare, the elderly were greatly affected. Although the elderly generally
have many different medical conditions, health research funding had to be cut by 10% to
meet the deficit goal. On the contrary, as promised, Medicaid funding stayed the same.
