One of the world’s most well known Native American public figures, Gary
“Litefoot” Davis built his career by embracing his cultural heritage and building the
“Litefoot” brand on his talents as a musician, performer and entrepreneur. Born and
raised in Oklahoma and a member of the Cherokee nation, he serves as a successful
example of the possibilities that exist for anyone that believes in themselves, works hard
and never quits until they accomplish their goals.
I think he is very interesting because not many Native Americans rap that I know
of. He is always embracing his culture and educating others on Native American Indian
culture. He uses his platform in a positive light, which is not always seen. At an early
age, Litefoot took after his past family members and started his own business. He
started a record label called Red Vinyl Records. In his songs he makes light of the
things people say about Native Americans, and it is kind of cleaver that he called his
label Red Vinyl Records. It was very successful and soon enough he wasn’t just
releasing music as the first ever Native American rap artist, but he was traveling the US
and preforming internationally.
