My Life After Joining the Army
At the age of 19, I became stone broke. I was a single mother working odd jobs, trying to support
my son. I shared a bedroom with my almost two-year-old at my parents’ house. In April 2005,
one month before my 20th birthday, I decided to join the United States Army in search of a better
life for my son and me. The Army taught me to be a better mother because I now have a stronger
work ethic, I am financially responsible, and I give 100 percent in everything.
