Narrative Essay Final Draft

Having a pet is a big responsibility, one that I did not want to have. All my life I have
never been a fan of pets, especially dogs. And, I definitely don’t like being in the house
with one. So, when my kids asked for a dog my immediate response was, “No.” After
talking it over with Paul, their dad and my fiancé, that no became a yes. It just so happens
our next door neighbor didn’t want his dog anymore and we decided we would get her as a
first pet. Her name was Diamond.
Diamond went through two, fifty pound bags of dog food within two weeks. My first
thought was, “Is she pregnant?” I asked my neighbor and he said, ”I didn’t know”. As time
went on we noticed she started getting bigger and she did nothing but lay around a lot.
After about six weeks of this we took her to the vet. The vet told us that she was pregnant
and she should give birth in the next 2 to 3 weeks. Shocked and amazed, Paul and I looked
at one another and dropped our jaws. We couldn’t believe it, Diamond was pregnant. I
became closer to Diamond during the rest of her pregnancy. I took her for walks and I fed
her sometimes. Three weeks later Diamond gave birth to thirteen puppies. Out of the
thirteen puppies, only six lived.
We had to bring the Diamond and her puppies in the house since, it was so cold outside.
