Summary
• Dr. Shetty had an aim of providing Affordable health care for the masses in India.
• India had over 15000 hospitals and nearly 6 lakh physicians, among the worlds highest. But still,
healthcare services were not easily accessible to the rural poor for the lack of affordability,
inconvenient and expensive travels due to the fact that most of the doctors and healthcare
infrastructure were located in urban locations which accounted for very less of the total
population.
• The demand for cardiac care in India was very high and inaccessible to a good amount of people
at the same time. This was due to the fact that the income distribution in India was highly
skewed,
• The government spending on public healthcare was less than 1%.
• There was market opportunity and Dr. Shetty made tapped into it with the vison of providing
quality healthcare services to people at lower costs.
