My Reflection as a Stranger
Everyone has that moment in life when they are no longer in touch with reality. Going
abroad and knowing that you are moving away from your loving family and friends are
undoubtedly one of the hardest decisions one has to make. A few years back, I involuntary
accepted an invitation by a close family friend who happened to live abroad. As simple as it
may sound, this was undoubtedly one of the most trying moments in my life. I was truly
depressed by the thought of having to live in a stranger’s house for two months. The most
depressing part was that, I could just say no. I am quite good at hiding my depression. I have
always dealt with my struggle in silence. I find this approach more practical and reassuring
because it not only guarantees my privacy but also shields the people I know from
unnecessary emotional burdens.
