My Passion for Pharmacy
Becoming a pharmacist has been a burning desire in my heart for many years because of
my background. Growing up in Nigeria has been a meaningful experience, but it has not been
easy. Nigeria is a blessed developing nation, which is endowed with so many rich natural
resources. The soil is fertile with the land flourishing with exotic fruits. We are known for our
abundance of oil and gas, as well as our kind-hearted people. In as much as we have all these
good things, we have a major problem that has been an obstacle to the growth and development
of the country. Poor leadership and mismanagement of resources has been the greatest obstacle
to the development of every sector of the economy. We are a nation where corruption is
predominant. Greed and selfishness have eaten deep into the hearts of the leaders, who do not
care about the desires and dreams of the citizens. Dreams are either diverted or destroyed. It will
take courage, strength, and connections for our citizens to attain their dreams. This problem has
had a huge impact in the health care industry, especially in the pharmaceutical sector. The
majority of the pharmaceutical stores are involved in selling counterfeit drugs and some sub–
standard medicine with no reasonable balance between drug effectiveness and safety, which have
claimed the lives of so many innocent citizens. I have a dream, a dream I have nurtured since I
was ten years old. “One day,” I promised myself, “I will grow up to become a pharmacist. This
dream has being growing in me for two very important reasons: my passion to save lives and the
tragedies I have witnessed firsthand.
When I was ten years old, I was extremely sick and my mother took me to a physician.
