My Favourite Place in Toronto
Mel Lastman Square is located in northern Toronto by the North York Civic Centre,
where it hosts many seasonal outdoor community events. This includes, but is not limited to,
concerts, farmer’s markets, cultural festivals, Canada Day celebrations, and ice skating (“Mel
Lastman…”). All such events are made possible due to its open space and various built-in
structures such as, an outdoor amphitheatre and reflecting pool that is made an ice-skating rink
during the winter (“Mel Lastman…”). In addition to the various uses for Mel Lastman Square, it
is also visually appealing due to its gardens, fountains and surrounding trees. This allows a quick
escape from the surrounding city to enjoy the calm sounds of trees blowing in the wind and
water flowing from the fountains. As such, Mel Lastman Square has become my favourite place
