Play Listening Assignment
The name of the play that I chose for this assignment is called My Favorite Husband
written by Bob Carroll, Jr. This play was under the category of comedy. The author had
created many hilarious scenes between the couple. According to Goethe’s three functions
of art, the play had fulfilled entertainment very well. It made me laugh a lot.
This play was divided into two acts. Act one, Liz Cooper and George Cooper had married
for ten years. However, Liz always changed her mind on everything, such as what dress
she should wear today, what restaurant should they going for lunch, what food she should
order etc. In addition, Liz can never finish what’s already starting it, which makes George
very upset. Liz promised George that she will now finish what she start it by first cleaning
the house. She found a letter that she wrote years ago that said she is going to leave
George. Because of the promise that Liz made, she decided to finish it and sent it to
George. However, George received a letter that was about the sorority reunion and read it
to Mr. Atterbury. Atterbury was George’s co-worker at the bank. By the time Liz’s letter
got delivered, George was already left work with Mr. Atterbury. Liz was with her friend
Mrs. Atterbury at home waiting to see George’s reaction. Ironically, George told Liz that
she should go so as Mr. Atterbury told Mrs. Atterbury. But what George meant was going
to the sorority reunion, not Liz should go away from the house. Liz thought George didn’t
