I am Raven Fame Theresse G. Tupa a Yolanda survivor from Dulag, Leyte, graduated recently
from Philippine Science High School – Eastern Visayas Campus and now a freshman student in University
of the Philippines Diliman, pursuing the course of BS Materials Engineering.
Despite all the hardships I had a*er the typhoon, I still did not stop dreaming that one day I will
become an engineer just like my father. Yolanda did not forbid me from dreaming. Instead it became one
of the reasons why I am s+ll trying my best up to this +me. Passing the UPCAT gave me another reason to
strive hard and achieve my goals in life.
I want to be a successful engineer in the field of material science. Dealing with metals, ceramics,
polymers and semi-conductors would sound a li2le bit +resome but I really think that this field is the one
for me and I’m sure that I will enjoy and love what I would be doing. I want to serve the nation by
working in laboratories and factories here in the country. It would be a great privilege to create new
projects made out of new materials that will open up to a new door to new technologies.
In the future a*er accomplishing my college years, as a scholar I will certainly help the people
who were part of my success by serving the na+on and working in the country. I will not forget to lend a
hand to people who need help, because for once I was one of them and I can’t achieve what I have in
the future if not for the aid I’ve received. I will make sure that my parents will not be disappointed in me
and guarantee to payback their sacri0ces just to send me to school. Lastly, my sister and I will help in
funding my li2le brother’s future college expenses in +me.
