My Absolute Worst Job
Growing up I frequently heard the saying “Do what you love, and success will follow”. I
always felt this to be true, but it didn’t hit home until I started working for a food packaging
company. I knew almost immediately that I didn’t want to work there, and that neither happiness,
fulfillment nor success would be found with this company. The four internal system components,
formal and informal elements of an organization and a mixture of Individualism and Power
Distance from Hofstede’s elements of cultural differences, all played a role in my absolute worst
job experience, resulting in me working for only two weeks.
Within those two long weeks working as a food packager, I didn’t learn much aside from
what each button on the conveyor belt controlled. I did, however, observe several things. One of
which, the four internal system components largely contributed to my forgettable experience.
