Music’s Impact on Society
Ever since prehistoric times, people used music as a form of language. It plays an
important role in society and significantly impacts different cultures around the world. It is one
way in which cultures can not only identify themselves but also communicate to each other and
find common ground. Music has impacted society on a large scale ranging from communication,
health, and even education. Music is a very powerful medium and can encourage multiple
responses. Today, music has become an important part in our everyday lives. It is now possible to
alleviate pain and anxiety to promote well-being. High blood pressure, a major condition in the
USA can be avoided with certain music. Music can even be manipulated to send a message or
educate society. In educational institutes, teachers use music as a handy learning tool. It has been
proven over the years that children who were taught musical techniques score a lot higher than
those who don’t. Music can send a message by pointing to some problem in society and giving a
possible solution to that problem. Music connects to people in ways we can’t truly comprehend.
But with every positive comes a negative. Over the years, the positive influence music
once had slowly diminished. Musicians today, now take music for granted. Musicians don’t care
what they say anymore. Money has taken control of many musicians today. Hip hop industries
for example has changed the feel music once had on society. Drugs, sex, and violence seems to
be the extent of their purpose. This message has a major impact on our generation and our future
generations. Kids that don’t know any better see these artists as role models and consequently
follow in their footsteps. This influence leads to more murders and gangs among young teens.
Because of this influence, there are more criminals than there are students. This affects our future
greatly because the best role models are not out there. Kids wishing to be stars will just end up
like their processors and continue to devastate our society.
