Antonio Caldara’s “Cello Sonatas”
Antonio Caldara was an Italian born Baroque composer born in 1670 and was the
son of a violinist. He died in December of 1736 and spent most of his life composing
music for chamber ensembles. He was a chorister at St. Mark’s, which is located in
Venice and studied under Giovanni Legranzi. Throughout his life-time he traveled back
and forth from France to Italy, composing for many royalty, including Charles VI of
Austria and Francesco Maria Marescotti Ruspoli, who was the 1st Prince of Cerveteri
