Once I figured out the controls and all the extra functions, I enjoyed using
Windows Movie Maker to make a movie with my family pictures from Mardi Gras. The
movie maker allows you to integrate pictures, texts, and music into the narrated
slideshow type video. This software also allows you to combine videos to create a
new video. The best feature of the Windows Movie Maker is being able to narrate your
videos and add music, text captions, animation and different transitions for each slide.
The only problem I encountered while working with the video maker was trying to set
the timing between the animation, text captions and the narration. Half the time, I
would fix one time and another would be askew which began to be very frustrating. After
several attempts to straighten this out I decided to save it and restart the app. Much to
my surprise, this was exactly what I needed to do to resolve the issue, from then on, I
saved frequently, just in case it gliched again. When you save your project, you can save
it in HD or with a smaller size to add to your blog. After finishing my movie, I had no
problem uploading it to YouTube, however, I was to filter it through ViewPure to
eliminate ads. After I put the URL into the “purify/search” bar, ViewPure repeatedly
said it could not find the video, I then tried to search by title. I tried to change the video
to and from public, confirmed the embedding option was on.
I learned a lot on the project about syncing audio, video and animation together
to create a unified movie that is cohesive and purposeful from start to finish. This will be
a fun and exciting way to encourage my students’ creativity and innovative thinking by
allowing them to collaborate and use digital media. This could inspire them to create
their own “Feature Film” to impress their families with, showing their progress on
Parents’ Day. By using pictures taken during a semester, the parents will better be able
to follow their child’s projects and efforts. This would follow the ISTE Teaching
Standards 1.a as well as 2.b supporting students creativity and critical thinking through
the use of media and virtual environments.
