Motivating the ADD Student
Students who have ADD have trouble focusing in school and can’t control their behavior
sometimes. It can be difficult for them to learn the same way other students learn. Teachers need
to be able to change the way they do lessons.
One way that I plan on motivating and encouraging students who have ADD is to praise
their good work. Students should know that their good work isn’t going unseen and that it is
appreciated. If a student who has ADD is staying on task and focused it is good for that student
to be acknowledged for that. When students get praised for doing their work and cooperating it
makes them want to do it more often.
Another method I am going to use for children with ADD is I am going to provide the
student with some sort of fidget device. Whether it is a stress ball, fidget spinner, or even if the
child is just doodling on his paper during a lecture it will help the student focus more if he or she
