3. To know if the students lack of interest is the most common cause of boredom among
high school students in academic subjects; and
4. To provide possible solutions towards boredom in academic subjects among high
school students
Null Hypotheses
1. The teachers method of discussion is the most common cause of boredom in academic
subjects among high school students.
2. The students lack of interest towards a subject is the most common cause of boredom
in academic subjects among high school students.
Theoretical Framework
Being mood monitors provides less opportunity for intense concentration on the situation.
For high mood monitors, engaging in an activity will require an effortful maintenance of
attention, resulting in more frequent feelings of boredom (Harris, 2000).
The theoretical framework of this study is based on the concepts of “The Attentional
Theory of Boredom Proneness”€. This theory by Mary B. Harris (2000), states that
boredom results from deficit attention.
This study relates by the attention that is being implied by the teachers way of discussion
and the students show of attention by their interest towards their subjects. If such is
implied by the theory, then the researcher points out that is mentioned that it could be the
teachers”€™ or the students”€™ activities in class that leads to the students”€™ boredom.
This study uses these concepts by focusing the teachers”€™ way of discussions and the
students”€™ behavior in class in order to know the most common cause of boredom
between the two.
Conceptual Framework
This study focuses on the causes of boredom among high school students in academic
subjects. The variables in this study will be the most common cause of boredom, the
dependent variable, the teachers method of discussion and the students”€™ interest in the
subject, the independent variables, and the level of boredom that occurs among the
students, the intervening variable.
The relationship among these three is that, the level of boredom among the students will
