The Act of Moral Courage
Acts of moral courage are rare in the day to day lives of people alive in the year 2018.
The popularity of social media, such as Facebook and Instagram, create a need for attention and
a good reputation. With this need, it is impossible to express moral courage for those that are
actively on social media and look for the likes and follows of others. This need for a perfect
reputation also happens in the workforce, where their careers and standard of living are on the
line for the sake of the ethics behind their work.
Doing acts such as being a whistle blower in the workplace, or standing up for what is
right, but against the eyes of society and getting backlash for it everywhere you look. These acts
are considered acts of moral courage. Moral courage is “facing mental challenges that could
harm one’s reputation, emotional well-being, self-esteem, or other characteristics” (Fort Hays
