Moneyball Reading Analysis
Moneyball by Michael Lewis tells the story of Billy Beane and the becoming fame of the
Oakland Athletics baseball team. In the book, players are chosen by odd characteristics instead
of actual athletic talent. Lewis aims to answer the question of whether or not their winning streak
is based on luck, or another kind of secret. In this essay, I will discuss sabermetrics or the
application of statistics to baseball, bias, and the players psychology and talent and how these
ideas relate to what we have learned in class.
In the early chapters of the book, Lewis discusses the history of sabermetrics.
