Growing up, there were a lot of families in my elementary school with single moms and step
parents. I never really understood why some of the kids had to go to after school, or ride the bus
home or to facilities such as he boys and girls club until their parents could come and get them.
Most of my family members were married with families so I still didn’t see the struggle behind a
single parent household.
I spent majority of my childhood in a two-parent household. My mother was a stay-at-
home mom and my father worked and headed the household. She took on majority of the
