1. Discuss how technology and the age of information have impacted interpersonal
relations.
Technology and the age of information have impacted interpersonal relations by allowing
people to communicate quicker and easier. Everyone is a “log–in” away from being able
to communicate to those near and far, as well as hearing the latest news. Although this is
beneficial, there is a downside to the new age. Online communication, for example, takes
away emotion and meaning from the way we speak, causing statements to sound one way
to the sender and a completely different way to the receiver depending on their
perception. By having easier access to communicate, technology takes away basic human
contact which is needed to survive.
2. Identify the advantages and disadvantages of using e-mail in organizational
communication.
Some advantages of e-mails in organizational communication are easy access and the
ability to multitask. E-mails are available at the touch of a button. This is helpful for
organizations because it’s quicker to type out a message and send it when there’s a mile
long to-do list. Multi-tasking is crucial in the busy world and e-mails make it possible for
people to relay information or ask questions while still doing their other jobs. On the
other hand, there are also disadvantages to e-mails. E-mails can allow people to
misinterpret information and delay solutions to problems. In the workplace, e-mails are
typed out quickly and they’re not always specific. It’s easy to misunderstand what
someone is trying to convey to you. When troubleshooting errors, e-mails are a go-to
option to get an answer. Although this may seem like an advantage, e-mails aren’t always
seen right away, so questions could be left unanswered for hours or days on end.
