Paper Two: Modernist Manifesto Compare and Contrast
Every author or person to have ever written or published any form of written word is
unique. This being said, no two pieces of work are the same, and this is part of what makes
literature one of the best outlets of expression that a person can do. Everyone has a different way
of approaching their work and intended purpose, therefore, I have found the styles and
manifestos of Ezra Pound stated in “A Retrospect” and the works of Langston Hughes the most
intriguing of the manifestos and literature we have read. In the poems of Langston Hughes, most
specifically “I Too,” he uses the elements of direct treatment of the subject and direct language
as well as utilization of rhythm as described by Ezra Pound in their modernist manifesto, but in
contrast, Langston Hughes sometimes uses words that could in other cases be left out.
