MNMGT202 REFLECTIONS SESSION 3: CULTURAL VALUES
1. Reflect on your personal attributes that define your identity, and identify cultural and
personality behaviours that best describe you.?
My first identity is a university student, who is a quick-leaner and hard-working. I am always
pushing myself to achieve a better performance, trying to get other’s recognition because the
performance orientation makes me realized that people always seeking for a significant position in
the society. Also, I am a responsible child, who is a thoughtful daughter. Grown up in a family with
busy parents and my elder sister does not have time to take care of me, I know that I have to be
independent. I learn how to take care of myself and my family because I am the only one who has a
lot of free time. The in-group collectivism helps me to create my attitude towards obedience, loyalty,
and cohesiveness. And to become who I am, I have been taught by a traditional, wise father who
works in a government office and an open-minded, hard-working mother who works for a
government media department. I have a combination of the traditional ideology and the modern
conception, which helps me to realize the distance between the genders when I am learning how to
achieve gender equality.
2. Using the GLOBE Dimensions (use at least 3), describe how the cultural values are an expression
and enactment of the tikanga of the people of your country?
Answer (stay within 120-150 words):
Since I was born and raised in China, I have noticed three cultural dimensions of Chinese culture,
which are high performance orientation, low gender egalitarianism, and high in-group
collectivism. The performance orientation occurs mostly in the working environment, mainly
through the compliments and complaints to motivate the excellent performance and to improve
the deficient performance. Then the scenario appears that the bosses push the employees to their
limit, which is the main reason for being stress, frustration and the employees would have some
cheat to get praises or simply to not being blamed. The in-group collectivism illustrates through
our conception that family is the most important thing in the world. Thai people are taught to be
