Mitochondria
Mitochondrion is a cellular organelle that was not discovered by just one person. The first
scientist to determine the existence of mitochondria was in the mid-1800s. In 1857, Albert von
Kölliker, named what he thought was mitochondria, “granules.” “The discovery of mitochondria
in general came in 1886 when Richard Altman, a cytologist, identified the organelles using a dye
technique, and dubbed them “bioblasts” (Chavis, Brighthub.com). In 1898, Carl Benda saw
