Misunderstood Minds
When it comes to children with learning disabilities not only is it hard for them
academically but also socially. Kids know when something is wrong with the way the
read, write or learn because they compare their weaknesses to other kids strengths.
Kids may begin using techniques to hide that there is something wrong; for example,
Nathan would memorize ideas and topics to be able to get by. The idea of a student not
being like everyone else is upsetting to them especially if they have yet to or aren’t
getting help. When Lauren was unable to be focused in school or social settings it was
frustrating to her more socially than academically. This is because other kids thought
she was odd because of the way she approached situations. Not having any real friends
in school, cause kids to feel left out and lonely. Students with disabilities may also start
feeling embarrassed in class. Answering questions out loud may start to be an obstacle
itself. If they cannot answer the question properly and other students notice, they may
