Jeremy is the most blamable of the group, earning a one. Out of the eight characters he is the one who
purposely took an innocent life. China becomes pregnant and refuses to take responsibility, but it is
Jeremy who does what he does with no remorse, “He never gave a thought to what lay discarded in the
Dumpster out back, itself wrapped in plastic, so much meat, so much cold meat.” (Boyle, 12)
China does not care about what happens to her baby. She doesn’t take responsibility for her actions
whatsoever and an innocent life is taken because of this. Jeremy throws the baby in the dumpster because
of her wanting to get rid of it, “Get rid of it. Just get rid of it.” (Boyle, 11). She does not show remorse for
her choices until much later in the story. China is the second most blamable in the group.
The third most blamable character is Johnson. Johnson beats his innocent wife, the only reason being
that he can not control his anger. He shows remorse but continues to hit her anyway “The knowledge
that he had struck her seeped through him slowly and he was appalled but he couldn’t drag his hands
away from her face” (Petry, 1505). He felt remorse, but he continued to cause bodily harm to an innocent
woman.
Gregor’s family does not technically cause harm to anyone; they do however, stop caring and they let
their own family member die. In “Metamorphosis”, Gregor turns into a human sized bug. His family turns
against him. His father throws apples at him wounding him. In time the family finds him to be too
