Michael Dunn’s Trial
Michael Dunn, a 47 year old Caucasian male was convicted for the murder of Jordan
Davis a 17 year old African-American Teenager. Michael Dunn was found guilty of
attempted second-degree murder for opening fire on three other teens in the same SUV as
Jordan Davis — but deadlocked on the murder charge against him in Davis’ death. The trial
raised a national outcry and it steered up racial tensions all across the country. The incident
took place in Jacksonville Florida, just about 120 miles away from where a similar incident
happened; George Zimmerman Non African-American male shot and killed an
African-American teenage male, Treyvon Martin. There have also been other incidents
about Non African- American men shooting or attempting to kill young African-American
male out of bias, stereotype about the violence and danger they perceive from these
younger colored people. Michael Dunn said the teenagers were playing loud music in there
car, where he pulled in after the teenager had been at the gas station. The Jury still could
not come to an agreement that the defendant was guilty of murder. He bagged about 60
years of jail time on the lesser charges.
The Incident also raised questions about Gun control in America and also a famous Florida
state Law “Stand Your Ground” which has been a common plea among the defendants.
The two Media source used were CNN and FOX news. The two sources did not vary a
whole lot, but personally, I would argue that CNN was more thorough about all the details
