Assignment Chapter 5
1. What challenges do companies face when trying to implement e-commerce business
plans and strategies? What can they learn from the WebVan experience?
Adopting technology can be beneficial, but it is not always easy. There are several things
a business can learn from the WebVan experience. They faced low scalability, limited
potential for growth, insufficient demand, and an incorrect outlook on the advertising. It
was also very expensive to execute. A company can learn what some of the challenges
are when implementing business through e-commerce, by looking at the WebVan
experience. There are also several other challenges that a business can face. Other
problems when implementing e-commerce business are data integrity, job shifts, more
skill requirements, integrating the systems, less creativity, protecting privacy and
security, too much information, outsourcing, less human service providers, and the
enforcement of regulations.
2. Identify and describe two apps for your cell phone or electronic reader and how they
improve your productivity and quality of life.
The two apps I have on my phone that help improve my productivity are the clock app
and the Google Chrome app. I have an iPhone, so the clock app is one that is
automatically built in, but I use it every day (usually several times a day). Within this app
there is a world clock, alarm, stopwatch, and timer. I use all functions except for the
world clock. The alarm function is the one I use every day. I have several different alarms
