Chipotle Case
1. Do you consider being an unauthorized immigrant a form of workplace diversity? How is it
similar to and dierent from other kinds of workplace diversity discussed in this chapter?
I don’t think being unauthorized should be a form of diversity because they aren’t legally
allowed to work without papers. While yes they are diverse because they are foreign, it shouldn’t be
seen as “diversity” since it isn’t legal under law. Ethnic diversity is similar to other diversi,es
because, to simply put it, these people are “di-erent”. I think it is important to show diversity in a
workplace because it is important that a company is willing to hire regardless of ethnicity, gender,
age, etc.
2. What are the bene!ts and risks to employers, such as Chipotle and others mentioned in this
case, of hiring unauthorized immigrants—whether or not they do so knowingly?
Some benefit of hiring unauthorized immigrants would be that they don’t have to
spend as much money. The text stated that a lot of unauthorized workers working in places like
Chipotle are more than likely making less than minimum wage, which means less money to
spend for the company. A lot of companies were also ge2ng these workers to work more hours
