Exercise 3
The first quiz I took was the Cross Cultural Quiz 1 with a final score of 5 out of 7. Although I
thought I would do be(er, there was a couple ques+ons that were confusing to me as some answers
were very similar to each other. For example, one of the question that I got incorrect was regarding the
French culture. I wouldn’t have thought that asking a French person about their marital status and their
kids was considered “intrusive”. From my experience, it is very common to ask someone upon meeting
them about their marital status and whether they have kids. When I ask in mee+ngs, it’s usually because
it’s my way of starting a conversa+on and getting to know them. Coincidently, I just had a mee+ng with a
French company named Faurecia and 3 out of the 5 people were here from France. It shocked me that I
got this ques+on incorrect as 2 of the French engineers asked my colleagues and I if we had kids. In this
case, I answered the ques+on based on one experience. The second ques+on I got incorrect was one
regarding the Japanese culture and their willingness to change companies. I did not know that most
Koreans stay with their first employer. In the United States, people are very open and willing to move to
a new company. A8er being in the automo+ve industry, the sta9 turnover I see at my workplace and at
my customers is shockingly high so its unbelievable to me that people in Japan tend to stay with one
company their whole career.
The second quiz I took was the Business Card E+que(e with a final score of 6 out of 10. I mainly
took this quiz out of curiosity as I have no knowledge on business card e+que(e. Being that I have only
been to Mexico for business (which is like doing business in the United States), I have no idea what the
rules are in other countries. The ques+on that shocked me the most was which hand would be the most
appropriate to use to pass out business cards in Sri Lanka. Honestly, it would have never crossed my
