The Mind
(A critical analysis of Kafka’s the Metamorphosis in the Light of Freudian Psychological Theory.)
The human mind has a multitude of layers and functions. Sigmund Freud studied the mind and how it
worked for his whole life. He elaborated the theory of the mind and how it is a very complex energy system and the
study of psychology, he also refined the concepts of the unconscious and proposed a tripartite account of the mind‘s
structure. “Sigmund Freud’s ideas to connect neuroscience with psychoanalysis in order to understand the function
of the human brain” (McGowan). Freud make large bounds in the field of the mind and this has led to a multitude of
texts and critiques based off of all of his theories. Frank Kafka is an author that wanted to use Freud’s theory to
create an exaggerated story that would represent how little people think about the mind and how effective it is to
everyday people. In Metamorphosis Frank Kafka uses psychoanalysis as a main technique to represent how Gregor
reacts to turning into vermin and how his super ego played into his overall transportation.
To begin, Frank Kafka used the actual metamorphosis to represent the changes in the mind and the
